Degumming is a conventional oil-refining step used to remove phospholipids, commonly called gums, from crude vegetable oil. Depending on the refining process, water, acids or other processing aids may be used to separate these compounds from the oil. Degumming is primarily done to prepare crude oil for further refining and to achieve a more standardized, refined end product.
Our cold-pressed groundnut oil does not undergo conventional degumming. Since we aim to offer an unrefined, minimally processed oil, we avoid taking the oil through an extensive refining chain simply to achieve a highly processed, standardized product. Instead, our groundnuts are cold-pressed at low RPM, followed by natural settling and gentle filtration to obtain a clean, usable cooking oil while keeping the process as simple as possible.
