This does not affect the soap’s quality, safety, or performance in any way. It can be used as usual, or simply removed with a damp cloth or rinsed under water to remove the layer before use. This is, in fact, a sign of a truly natural, chemical-free soap, made without synthetic stabilizers, emulsifiers, or preservatives.
While lye (sodium hydroxide) is used in the initial soap-making process, it is ultimately used up during saponification, which is the natural reaction between oils and lye to create soap and glycerin. This means that in the final soap, there is no lye left at all — just gentle, skin-loving soap.
